I have been using Google Chrome for about five days. Am not much a fan of Google, but I accept they give they give great products. So let’s talk about their newest product Google Chrome.

First of all, it’s free ware and open source too. Since I have read a comic made by Google Chrome team which gives detailed information about the software I know how different the software it is. Let’s leave that now. First thing every body will notice about Google Chrome is how they tried to copy Mozilla Firefox. Their tab option, and looks are took and modified in Chrome. But for me, I like this new look, cause in Chrome all un-necessary menus and other options are stripped. This enabled Google to enlarge the address bar (and everything) slightly, which I like the most. It has sleek and cool looks. It’s like viewing Firefox in the full screen mode with some more options on the menu.

I use Google as my search engine, so the best thing about Chrome is, if I have to search for something, I just need to type that and press enter, and it will be automatically searched in Google. Another thing which I really like is their history option. It’s kind of spying but Chrome lists all the sites I have ever visited even with date and time. Ya Firefox also does that, but they don’t give dates and exact times.

Enough with goods, lets talk about some “I don’t like” stuff. First of all, there’s of all there’s no compatible plugins. I really like Google toolbar which gives me shortcut buttons, page rank, cache etc… tools, which is not there in Chrome. Another thing, there are many instances when I accidently closed a tab, Firefox would give me two options,

History tool in the menu

Using a plugin called Sessions Manager

But here there are no options, if I take the history option in Chrome, it would not give me any “recently closed tabs” option. Another one worth mentioning is; inline dictionary. Firefox has one, although not powerful but does the job. But sadly Chrome doesn’t have an inline dictionary. I don’t how Google guys have forgot to add this feature, but it was very necessary. One more thing, incompatibility with some sites. While I was using Chrome, there were many instances where the site was not loading or doing stuff the normal. First I thought it was the problem of the site, then I tried the same link in Firefox and it worked for me fine. Oh one more thing, on my laptop there’s a finger print reader, and the module for that has not yet released, so I cant save the passwords in Chrome using my finger print which is another fall for me.

So what I am gonna do is, continue using Google Chrome but keep Firefox as a backup. Here is what I said about Google Chrome when it was just released.

Are you using Google Chrome now? If you aren’t yet, do you want to? Then here is the download link, Download Google Chrome (Offline Installer). If you are already using Google Chrome do you have something to say about Google Chrome? Please feel to share it through the comments option.

I woke up today and opened cyriac.me thinking about what to write today. Yesterday I sat in front of this computer for long hours trying to install Google’s new browser Chrome. I was checking this link and download google chrome in between all these time and it’s not available yet. They said Google Chrome will be launched on Sep 2nd, but I was tired of waiting for it.

So today when I woke up, first thing I did was, check this link. Whoila it was available to download. But still I couldn’t initiate the download. But when I tried in Internet Explorer, everything was easy as a pie. I was so excited to have it installed, because since I was not able to install Google Chrome yesterday, I read a comic made by Google Chrome Team.

Google Chrome is completely revolutionary software. Its not like firefox or internet explorer. What they did is revolutionize the way browsers work. In simple words firefox and all others work as a single process, but in Google Chrome, every tab is a separate process. What this means is improved memory usage and speed. This is something like what is done in an operating system (whoa !!!). With the new and redefined core process of Google Chrome every element (javascript, html rendering and so on) are on separate threads, so they work fast and they will never hang.

Most beautiful thing is if one of the tab happens to hang, in our usual internet explorer or firefox if this happens, the whole browser hangs and ceases to work. But in Google Chrome you won’t lose everything but only that tab, and what you get is a smiley, when you open that page, how cool is that huh ? You can even close each tab from the task manager of the OS (by tapping ctrl+alt+del).

Another thing worth mentioning is safety and security, I don’t know much details but in the comic it says it saves you from malware and phishing like no other. It won’t allow any pop-ups, it will just minimize them to the corresponding tab, and the user have to click it if interested.

But I didn’t like one thing; currently we don’t have Google Toolbar for Google Chrome. But that’s not a necessary, cause there are alternatives for it. But problem is when you want pagerank and alexa toolbars. Also there might be a delay while new plugins are made for Google Chrome.

What I am gonna do is, use chrome for usual browsing and keep firefox as a backup. Actually while writing this I couldn’t download a driver through chrome, but when I simply tried the same link on Firefox, driver came smoothly. So I will definitely keep Firefox.

For those who say Chrome is just a copy of Firefox, here is what Chrome Team says,

If you don’t look at the looks of the browser but enjoy what’s behind it, you will definitely love Chrome.

If you want to try Google Chrome I have uploaded an offline installer. Download Google Chrome (Offline Installer) and use it, and post your reviews and thoughts in the comments section.
